Bot Done...ish

Okay, the bot's about as done as it's gonna get, I think, though it failed on the last 8 pages. We should probably try editing and saving each one by hand, but I was having no luck on a couple of them...I didn't exhaustively try all 8, though.

After a lot of messing around, my strong suspicion is that the number of times the Family Tree template is called on those pages is a large part of the problem, along with the overall size and complexity of the rest of each of the pages. Unfortunately, both solutions to that—reducing the complexity of {{Family Tree}} or replacing it with Wikipedia's nearly identical Chart template—are not possible for me due to the spam filter kicking in on some of the CSS formatting. I don't remember if even Bodhi can bypass that particular spam filter...I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.

We can try splitting the remaining pages into subpages and then transclude them back into one, but I'm not sure that'll help. The best solution might just be to split them into subpages, but instead of transcluding them back in, just link to them instead. A third possibility is to do screen grabs of the family trees, then link them in as images instead and delete the template calls.

I'm done for the day, so I thought I'd let you know where things stood in case you want to play around tomorrow. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 04:33, 21 January 2012 (EST)

I find it hilarious that the pages HnB had trouble with are the same ones I couldn't get to work no matter how many times I tried. I'll see if they're behaving better today. Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 11:35, 23 January 2012 (EST)
That stands to reason because it goes through the same process for saving as you or I would. There are other ways bots can use, but the framework I'm using wasn't designed to use them. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 23:12, 23 January 2012 (EST)

Source fixes

Just to keep you up to date, as far as replacing all the {{Source}} calls with source, page, and pageto parameters goes, I've more or less got everything working. There's just a little more functionality I want to add, since at present, it can only add parameters to the end of a template call, rather than in the middle, where we'd probably want it, in other words, it does this:

instead of this:

I'm just not sure when I'll have time, or how long that'll take. My programming skills are getting a tad rusty. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 18:47, 31 January 2012 (EST)

Spam Accounts

Bodhisattva talk · contribs · Exalted Wiki Administrator 17:47, 5 March 2012 (EST): Thank you very much for marking spam accounts. I got all 287 spam accounts and all 500+ pages marked for deletion cleared out. Work is in progress to get the spammers to stop being able to register. Thank you very much for all that you do here. :)

Spam Blocking

Bodhisattva talk · contribs · Exalted Wiki Administrator 21:15, 9 March 2012 (EST): Do we know that the user NO1watches is definitely a spam account and not a legitimate user? I can't seem to find any spam from them yet.

I've been marking user accounts that fit patterns I've seen in past spammers. So, no, I don't know for sure. Still, they have a link on their userpage where they can disagree with being tagged as such.Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 21:24, 9 March 2012 (EST)
Bodhisattva talk · contribs · Exalted Wiki Administrator 21:27, 9 March 2012 (EST): Can't necessarily count on that, since spammers get their e-mail blocked ever since I had a spammer e-mail me to get unblocked, then posted more spam.
Do you mean that, once they are blocked, they cannot object to their banning? Seems like something that needs to be fixed. Still, if that's the case, then I can certainly understand there's a need for more caution in who gets tagged as a spammer. Since the spam influx has decreased dramatically, I will stop marking accounts for simply having suspicious user names and just add them to my watchlist until/unless they begin spamming. I'll remove the tag from NO1watches now. Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 23:53, 9 March 2012 (EST)

Congratulations on getting mod rights! Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 21:47, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

And as a good way to try them out, can I suggest protecting {{IsOfficial}}? That looks to have just been accidental blanking, but it probably caused a bit of chaos with the categories for a while. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 21:53, 13 March 2012 (EDT)
Thanks! :) I was thinking of doing so myself, honestly, but I was out of the house when I spotted it. On my phone. Because mobile viewing works now. Squee. Now to... go figure out how to do that :S Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 22:38, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

Questions Posted

I'm not sure if my posting questions on talk pages across the wiki like I have (here and here) is right or not also my asking about the first on the Exalted Wiki:Community portal‎ page... I ask because it seems like nobody is noticing the questions (naturally, this could be that the questions are noticed but nobody is comfortable answering them...). As a side note, if you don't know the answers could you suggest an alternate venue to ask them on? Nerdvana 18:47, 28 March 2012 (EDT)

There's a trade off there. The community portal is really for questions about the wiki or policy. The Tea House is more for rules questions. On the other hand, talk pages are less visible but more specific to what you need. There also aren't a lot of editors perusing. I try to answer when I know the answer, but your artist question had me stumped. I'd point you towards the art director, Brian Glass, but I don't have his contact info. Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 19:35, 28 March 2012 (EDT)
Do you think Bodhisattva might know? Nerdvana 20:14, 28 March 2012 (EDT)
Bodhisattva talk · contribs · Exalted Wiki Administrator 10:54, 29 March 2012 (EDT): I can often identify pictures by their artist, but I'm not perfect. I do have a file folder full of Exalted Art that Brian Glass sent to me that might help me, but as I said, I'm imperfect for identification purposes. Also, Brian no longer works directly for White Wolf anymore, I believe, which makes me quite sad. He's a great person to work with. I do have contact information for him, but I'm not comfortable giving that out without his prior permission. However, ask me questions about specific pieces of art (sorry, I don't have the time to dig up my copies and look at every single piece) and I'll see what I can do.
The questions I referred to are about the Jadeborn Caste pictures from The Scroll of Fallen Races (who did them) and about the Tomb of the Night Caste from The Return to the Tomb of Five Corners (specifically where's the gate?). Thanks and, if Goddessgood wishes we can take this to my talk page for the answer) Nerdvana 15:05, 29 March 2012 (EDT)

aha. One got through.

- Cutegirl36 made it past our safe guards. I'll revert her edits, but since you're a mod now (Congo-rats BTW) I thought I'd let you know. StarHawk  talk subpages 00:38, 5 April 2012 (EDT)

Did you review/revert all of her edits? (she did quite a few...) Also, does she loose her account/editing rights somehow? Nerdvana 05:29, 5 April 2012 (EDT)
StarHawk reverted all of the edits. Goddessgood doesn't have the ability to block users, only Bodhisattva can do that. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 21:58, 5 April 2012 (EDT)
Ok. Still leaves me wondering if the person who did that gets blocked somehow. (I didn't mean to imply that Goddessgood would be taking action, just asking if there would be consequences beyond the simple reversion of the edits.) Nerdvana 06:54, 6 April 2012 (EDT)
Sorry, I should have mentioned that I reported it on Bodhi's page. He's blocked her now. Robin Hood (Official Worker Caste Jadeborn) → talk 14:57, 6 April 2012 (EDT)
No problem. Thanks for the update! Nerdvana 15:44, 6 April 2012 (EDT)
Nrrr. Sorry for my long absence. Been getting things set up in California and started looking for a job. Should be back somewhere near my normal level of attentiveness soon. Goddessgood · Mod · Talk 11:49, 7 April 2012 (EDT)
